Bees with Rosemary Weir - Reflection

Bees!!

Hi my name is Ata and this is my reflection about bees. Over the past term my group called extension have been learning about honey bees and why they are so important to planet earth.

The we heard that an actual beekeeper was going to come in with a beehive with real live bees. We were so surprised once we heard. So today she came. After we had come into the I.C.T room i saw the beehives with the real live bee just coming around and doing their tasks inside. Did you know that in each box of bees there are 9 frames. The is a lot of frames in each box. I looked in through the glass and i saw worker bees hatching the eggs so that the baby bees could start a life their own.

Oh, That’s right I forgot to mention the beekeeper’s name. Her name was Rosemary. She has been working as a beekeeper for around 12 years. Very long time right. She must really enjoy working with bees right. Rosemary  was a very talented  beekeeper.

The only 2 things that i wondered about the beehive was, Why was there only 1 drone bee and no queen bee in the whole hive? That is a really mysterious question. Maybe we will find out next time. Feel Free to comment. Thanks for reading! BYE!!

Athletics

Guess What? On Friday the 13th of November 2015 at Pt England School we had an Athletics day. We had to bring clothes from home that represent our House Colours. I got up out of bed and realised that it was going to be an amazing day. Because today we had our annual school athletics. There was 4 different house teams. Hikianalia is Yellow, Te Aurere is Red, Hine Moana is Blue and Hokule'a is Green.

Athletics is the sport of competing in track and field events, including running races and various competitions in jumping and throwing. The activities that everyone had to participate in were, High Jump, Discus, Shot put, Relays, Javelin, Obstacle Course, Sack Race, Tug of War, Softball Throw, 50, 75 and 100m races. There were a lot of activities to keep us busy throughout the whole day.

First of all, once the 8:30 bell rang the whole school started to get change and get ready for a brilliant day of sports. I got changed into my Green T-Shirt and black shorts. After that I put some green tape on my cheeks and wrist. I then put black and red tape on my ankles. The green tape represented the best house colour of all, GREEN/HOKULEA. Furthermore, the black and red tape represented our Pt England School Uniform.

Until next time, I will tell you more. Thanks for reading.

WHY IS GREEN SO AWESOME?

REASONS OF WHY GREEN IS THE BEST COLOUR?

Green is the colour of nature. It symbolises growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. Green has strong emotional correspondence with safety. Dark green is also commonly associated with money.
Green has great healing power. It is the most restful colour for the human eye; it can improve vision. Green suggests stability and endurance. Sometimes green denotes lack of experience; for example, a 'greenhorn' is a novice. In heraldry, green indicates growth and hope. Green, as opposed to red, means safety; it is the colour of free passage in road traffic.

Use green to indicate safety when advertising drugs and medical products. Green is directly related to nature, so you can use it to promote 'green' products. Dull, darker green is commonly associated with money, the financial world, banking, and Wall Street.

Dark Green is associated with ambition, greed and jealousy. Yellow-Green can indicate sickness, cowardice, discord and jealousy. Aqua is associated with emotional healing and protection. Olive Green is the traditional colour of peace.

WHY IS THE GREEN TEAM THE BEST TEAM EVER?

My Team, the green team have many children that back up each other when they need their help. My team is awesome because to us it doesn't really matter if we in or lose. As long as we had fun and enjoyed that beautiful sports day. Our group stick together. A team like ours NEVER GIVES UP. Even when things get hard. We are excited to try new things. We are a team that works together and never leaves anyone behind. We are the best team and we want you in our team.

Just to let you know: We have a lot of fast people and people of participate in new things even if they don’t feel like. They always give it a try. Please feel free to check out our team and join in if you feel like it. We are not forcing you just do what you want.

Riverside Camp Highlight

Once the 12:30 bell had rang, the super duper holidays had started. I was so excited. I dashed out the classroom door to see my parents. They were waiting for me in our Big Black Ford. I just couldn’t wait for a mysterious monday morning because on the first monday morning of the holidays I was going to go to a very awesome camp called Riverside Camp. It was going to be held at Willow Park, Eastern Beach.
I was going with 79 other riversiders from Pt England School. I decided to go so that I could have a bit of fun for the 1st week of the holidays. Did you also know that our school riverside camp has been going on for over 25 years now?

At about 10am we had arrived at Willow Park. Once everyone had got out of the buses we unloaded the them and took of our our luggage into the meeting room called The Rimu Room. Furthermore, then we had figured out our teams and the cabins that our team was going to sleep in. My Team slept in room 8. Moreover, we then got our beds ready and we were given a task by Mr Burt to come up with a group name and a group chant. After about 15mins my team came up with a group name and chant. Our name was the PUMBAS. Our group chant was: In the jungle the mighty jungle, the PUMBAS are here to stay. In the jungle the mighty jungle, the PUMBAS come to play and we’ll win all the games we play today X2.

For the teams there were 4 girls teams and 4 boys teams. The Boys names were: BWA, R4BZ, The Simbarians and TANZ. The Girls names were: The PUMBAS, COG, FLAVAS and MUFASA. There were a lot of different chants and names. In our teams we played games in our free time. The first thing that I did in my free time was that I went up to my cabin and got dressed for the beach. After 30mins later, Mr Burt blew the hooter for everyone to meet in the Rimu Room so that we could grab all of our stuff that we needed at the beach to keep warm and even to get a bit wet and sandy. Our activity was to make beach sculptures and we had our own team spaces to make our sculpture in. For 5mins we had time to figure out what we were going to make. Our team made a 3D tree called A Tree Of Life In 3D. So first we drew a border to make the tree. We shaped it, we dug it and then we filled it in. Once we had filled it up with sand, my whole team helped to put props on it. Like grass, sticks and more crazy stuff.

When it had been 1hr, everyone gathered around other teams sculptures and Mrs Burt and Mrs Hamilton was judging them. 4 Teams even made heaps of different things. I can’t even remember most of them. It was too awesome. After we looked at everyone’s sculptures, Mrs Burt the winner in mind. Guess who won? THE PUMBAS! My team jumped up in the air and shouted. YAY! We were all so happy that we even ran and slid on the sand crazily. It was an awesome day for us.

I had so much fun at Riverside Camp. Maybe next time I will tell you more. Sometime soon. I bet if you were there you would have more fun than I did. I didn't even have a favourite part. I wish I never had to leave.

Short Paragraphs

On a cloudy and windy afternoon a man decided to go for a swim in the fast and deep water by the dock. But since he got bored just swimming around, then he saw a terrifying bull just walking around doing nothing, sooo, he attacked it. He hit it so hard that the dangerous and giant looking bull sprinted after him. The man panicked in fear of the wild bull chasing after him. So the man sprinted in the water with fury and danger. The bull violently leaped over the sandbags and sprinted after the scared and frightened man. RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE!!!!!

Writing Sample Practice and Rubric

Image result for cross country
On Monday the 7th of September we had our annual school cross country. It was a nice sunny day to do it. We had our cross country after Lunch at 1pm.

My House Colour was Green. There were other colours too. They were, Blue, Red and Yellow. When we were waiting I felt a bit nervous because I thinking about what place I would come in. We had to hop into Boys and Girls lines from Year 1 - Year 8. Once everyone was in their Year Lines then Ms Vaafusuaga talked to us about the rules. It took forever. Moreover, when she had finished talking then the Yr 1 Boys went up to Race first. I was cheering for my brother. When the clamps went ‘CLAP’ the Yr 1 boys ran as fast as they could. My brother was in the lead. At the end I was very surprised about who had came first. Guess Who Did? MY BROTHER. YAY!!!.

As soon as the Yr 1 Boys were finished Classes 6,7,8,9 and 10 moved over by the field to check out the races. While I was waiting for our turn to race I sat down and watched the other people in the school run. It was amazing. After about 30mins, It was the Yr 5 girls turn. Which means it was my time to run. I was feeling very very nervous. Mrs Nua took us up to the starting line. After That, we and got to the starting line and I looked around me nervously. I saw my friends on the other side of me and they were looking like they were ready to race. When I heard Mr Burt go ‘CLAP’ with the clamps I run my fastest I was coming about 10th at first but then I was coming above 10th. I stopped for a bit then I ran again. I was feeling excited when I ran because I was relieved that I wasn’t coming last. Once I got onto the reserve I stopped for about 5min to catch my breathe then I ran as fast as a lion. I was really getting tired but I knew that if I had stopped then I might have came over 20th. So I carried on.

About 10 mins later I reached the finish line. Heaps of people were cheering for everyone especially Ms Vaafusuaga and Mr Burt. I felt really amazed when I pasted the finish line but I was also very tired. I went for a drink of water then sat down to watch the other races.

Furthermore, when all the races were done I went to class and packed for the next day. I wonder how I will feel next year we do cross country. I might feel heaps of different emotions. Let’s just wait and see next year. It was an amazing day for the whole school. I hope that I come in the Top 5 next year.

Trade Fair Recount

Introducing: The Trade Fair Recount.

Have you ever been to a Trade Fair? If you haven’t then I am going to tell you about what we did for our Team Trade Fair and our fake money at school.

First of all, I am going to tell you about what we have to do to get stuff from our Team 4 Trade Fair. To get stuff we have money in our bank and it is called PT’S and Pieces. Everyone in Team 4 had a Kids Bank that they could log in to and see how much PT’S and Pieces they had altogether. PT’S mean $ and Pieces mean ¢. The last time I logged into my bank I had 3PT and 50pieces. Other people had a lot of money in their bank.

Secondly, I am going to tell you about our Team Businesses. The Teachers announced 6 different Businesses and The names of them were, 1) Custom Stationery, 2) Musical Instruments, 3) Home ware, 4) Kitchen, 5) Toys and 6) Jewels and Accessories. We had to go onto this link: Enterprise Business Group Choices to choose our Business groups. The rule that once you were in the group that you chose then there was no switching. I chose the Home ware Group. In our groups we had to hop into a group of 2 - 4. I was with Tatiyana and Skye. Once we had chosen our groups then we had to decide what we were going to make. My group decided to make Soap and Candles. So I made a spreadsheet to put down information of what we would need, how much it would cost and where to get it from. Here is the Link to it: Information Spreadsheet.

Lastly, I am going to tell you about what we did for our Team 4 Trade Fair. For our Trade Fair we had to set up in our groups and get our creations together on the table we were working on. Me and my Partners were making soap. My group set up our soap on the table in front of Mr Sommerville’s Class. Once Everyone got set up then the Trade Fair was about to begin. Heaps of People went around ordering stuff from the other groups. For My Soap Group we got 11 Orders. Then after 30mins the people that were going around had to go back to their station and the people that were selling 1st now become the people that were allowed to go and order and buy stuff.

At 3:00 the bell rang and that was when the Team 4 Trade Fair was finished. Until week 8. I hope you enjoyed my Trade Fair Recount. THE END.
